This appealed to my sense of humour !
A man walked into the Dentist’s office saying ”I have 2 buddies waiting in the car for us to go play golf on the best golf course in town. The tee off time is 10a.m and it’s 9.30a.m already, I dont have time for the anaesthetic to take effect so just pull the tooth out”.
The dentist thought what a brave man he is!! he asked what tooth it was and the man turned to his wife and said, “open your mouth honey, and show him”.
Golf in the 2016 Olympics ?
Golf and rugby sevens face one last test on Friday 9th Oct. if they are to be included in the Olympics from 2016.
The International Olympic Committee’s executive board voted to include both at a meeting two months ago.
But the recommendation must be rubber-stamped by a full meeting of the IOC congress in Copenhagen.

Golfing with the Older Man !
A young man who was also an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in nine holes before he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off an old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not being able to say no, he allowed the old gent to join him.
To his surprise the old man played fairly quickly. He didn’t hit the ball far, but plodded along consistently and didn’t waste much time. Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot. There was a large pine tree right in front of his ball – and directly between his ball and the green.
After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot the old man finally said, “You know, when I was your age I’d hit the ball right over that tree.”
With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from where it had originally lay.
The old man offered one more comment, “Of course, when I was your age that pine tree was only three feet tall.”

Lining up accurately on the Tee Box
Do you struggle to find your target consistently yet your ball striking and distances are good? You are more than likely not aiming correctly. Here is a simple tip to help you improve your alignment and ultimately your accuracy on the tee box:
1. Before teeing up your ball, stand behind the tee markers and find your target.
2. Once you have decided on a target, find a smaller target on the ground one metre in front of where you are going to tee it up. This small target can be anything from a leaf to a different colour piece of grass or even a previous divot. This must be in the same line as your target.
3. Take aim at the smaller target in front of you and this will automatically aim you at your desired target further away.
If your accuracy was previously offline, you may find this method slightly unusual the first couple of times. However, you will find yourself hitting your target more often and your scores will improve.
The laws of Good Club Selection
A ten-foot putt counts just the same as a ten-foot drive
Even if it’s a 5-iron, the lowest numbered iron in your bag will always be impossible to hit
Everyone turns in a 2-iron, but you can kiss that wedge good-bye
Funny-looking putters have short life spans
If you have to keep the cart on the cart path, unless you take every single one of your clubs over to your ball, you won’t have the right club
If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as John Daly does, simply play to lay up just short of a water hazard
It always takes at least five holes to notice that a club is missing
Its the right club, but you decide it’s the wrong club
It’s the right club, but you think it might be too little club so you try to kill it, or it might be too much club, so you quit on the shot
It’s the wrong club
Never ask the pro if you need a new set of clubs
Never buy a putter until you’ve had a chance to throw it
Never hit trick shots with demo clubs
Nothing cools off a putter quicker than a hot driver
The best thing about a 60-degree wedge is it’s a great club for getting the ball out of the lies you’re going to end up in if you’re dumb enough to use a 60-degree wedge
The best thing about hybrids is that no one can tell that your 150-yard club used to be a wood, not an iron
The best way to cause the reappearance of a club lost on the course is to order a replacement
The reason those fancy wedges are so expensive is they come with a free case of the shanks
The straightest iron shot of the day will be exactly one club short
The week after you break down and buy one of those super-duper new drivers, they’ll knock a hundred pounds off the price and release a brand new model with a better shaft and a bigger head
When in doubt, just ask yourself, What would Tiger hit?, and use six more clubs
When someone asks what club you hit, always subtract one or add two
When you’re between clubs, it’s always the other club, unless it’s the other other club
You can hit the ball 30 yards with any club in the bag
You can’t hit decent tee shots with a 3-wood unless you carry a driver you never use
You haven’t really hit bottom until you need to get your ball retriever regripped
You really need only four clubs to hit every bad shot in golf
Lo Nuestro ; Buzanada, Tenerife
Those who have read my restaurant reports before know that we go out at least one night in the week with friends for a meal. It used to be that we would decide between us where we would go based on somewhere we liked or had been recommended. That has all changed. We have now decided to go somewhere that we DON’T know. Taking it in turn to choose a restaurant, no arguing. If it’s good – great, if it’s bad then at least we know to cross it of our list.
Our first jaunt was to Lo Nuestro a typical Canarian restaurant specialising in meat and fish dishes up a tiny unmade path off the main street in Buzanada (before the roundabout & opposite Excalibur).
We visited in March and as it was cold moved tables twice ending up in a cosy corner away from the door and any possible draughts there might be from people coming in and out.
The waiter was very attentive and took our order (fortunately there is a section in English). A large dish of deep fried squid and octopus (more than enough for 4 people) was brought to our table. We said it wasn´t ours, and were told it was complements of the house. This was followed by our starters of Fried Goats Cheese with two different mermeladeas (jams) and sweet black pudding (just love this stuff full of nuts and fruit).
All meals come with a selection of vegetables, plus Canarian potatoes and chips. If you want bread and mojos like many restaurants this is an extra. Our choice for the night was a large mixed kebab of chicken, pork and beef; pork chops; a chicken cordon bleu and I had the chicken lo-nuestro which was breast of chicken in a pineapple and pepper sauce (delicious).
Dessert – only the two boys (boys Ha!!) could manage these and they both went for the light options. A lemon sorbet and Bienmesabe a popular dessert, made of ground almonds, sugar syrup, cinnamon and lemon zest. To wash it all down we had 5 beers, 1 coke, 2 waters, 2 cafe con leche and a barraquito.
The bill for 4 was just €68 and the portions so large we brought one piece of my chicken and one of other half’s pork chops home (our dog was happy for almost 3 days).
There is no smoking in the restaurant but when two of us went outside for a cigarette the manager said it was too cold and to sit at the bar. He then gave us a couple of Ron Miel’s to warm us up. After the meal as there were only a few people left behind he came to our table with an ashtray.
The waiter spoke a little English and with our bit of Spanish it was good fun, once he learnt we lived here he was cheeky and when we asked for more water he replied ´No San Miguel´ then winked and brought our water.
Before we have a meal anywhere I like to check out the toilets, if they are not up to standard, we walk. These were spotless, up a few stairs and had recently been beautifully re-tiled.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Lo Nuestro. Both the food and the service were excellent – This will definitely get a second visit.

The Golf Pro Prayer
The golf pro Prayer
The Pro is my Shepherd,
I shall not Slice.
He maketh me to Drive Straight
Down Green Fairways;
He leadeth me Safely
across Still Water-Hazards;
He restoreth my Approach Shots.
He Leadeth me in the Paths of
Accuracy for my Game’s Sake.
Yea, though I chip through the Roughs
in the shadows of Sand Traps,
I will fear no Bogies.
For his Advice is with me;
His Putter and Irons,
they confort me.
He prepareth my Strategy for me
in the presence of mine Opponents;
He anointeth my head with Confidence:
The Cup will not be runneth over!
Surely Birdies and Eagles shall follow
me all the Rounds of my Life,
And I will score in the Low Eighties

RUBINA Restaurant – Los Cristianos
RUBINA
(Extensive menu to suit all tastes, warm friendly atmosphere and loved by locals).
This restaurant has been on my list for a little while and as our friends have visitors this week we decided to try it just the two of us.
We were met at the door by Mo the Lebanese owner who is a first class host, you feel as if you have known him forever after just a few minutes. His English is faultless and he also speaks 5 other languages so this guy is no dummy.
We sat inside, in case it turned cool and it is very tiny, 6 tables each set for two people. Nicely decorated – typical Spanish style. There is no fast food in this place, just a tiny open kitchen where you can watch everything being made from scratch, so be prepared for a little wait. There were several tables taken outside and while we were there 4 people came for take-away pizzas. The menu was extensive but based around tourist tastes rather than anything Middle Eastern as he feels it might be a step too far for the majority of clients.
I had the ‘devil’s on horseback’ starter the dates were lovely and fresh as were the walnuts, OH had prawns in garlic oil. Neither were huge portions but big enough and certainly very tasty. For main course Mo recommended the fillet steak which he gets from Argentina. This comes in several forms all around €16.50 – €17.50. OH had this, cooked with onions and honey and served with mixed vegetables and sliced fried potatoes. I opted for the house special which was strips of chicken cooked in ginger, served with sliced potatoes and half a red pepper filled with a honey and ginger sauce. Having sampled OHs I can honestly say they were both delicious.
Mo the owner of Rubina – named after his wife.
They don’t have a large selection of puddings, mainly ice creams plus one main dish of the day, today it was a type of tart with caramel however because the main course was quite large we had no room for dessert. We had four drinks, plus a café con leche and a baraquito and the bill was (including tip) €51.00 While not the cheapest around it was very good value for money and I will certainly go back.
My only criticism is that OH would have liked some bread to mop up the garlic oil from his starter although it was only afterwards we realised it was an extra on the menu and had to be ordered.
If you are planning to visit it is easy to find, just up from the Aguamar Hotel and on the roundabout opposite the Language School in Los Cristianos and if you want to sit indoors it is best to book
RESTAURANTE – PIZZERIA EUROPA
You can have a good meal at any time of the day or evening at Restaurante Europa, on the corner of the pink building across the street from the entrance to the Botanical Gardens in Puerto de la Cruz.
With comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, this restaurant opens at 10 am and closes at 11 pm, so you can spend a leisurely time visiting the gardens and still cross the road for a meal afterward without wondering about closing time.
There is a menu of the day as well as pizzas and a varied choice from the à la carte menu.
Some sample dishes with prices: Solomillo à la pimienta (pepper steak) €13.50; Pork filet medallions with herb butter €11.50; Prawn cocktail €8.50; Pork chop, salad & chips €8.75; Mixed salads €5.75 to €7.52;
Spaghetti carbonara €7.50; Tortellini gorgonzola €7.50; Roast chicken & chips €6.75; Pizzas from €6.15 to €8.25; Papas arrugadas & mojo €4.00; Local fish with papas & mojo €9.00; Desserts, mousse and ice creams €3.00 to €3.50;
1 bottle Dorada beer €1.50; 1 glass wine €1.25; 1 cafe cortado €.75.
The pork medallions with herb butter and sautéed vegetables is delicious but my favourite dish is the tortellini in gorgonzola sauce.
Open every day including Sundays 10:00 to 23:00h.
Address: Calle Retama No.3, La Paz, Puerto de la Cruz
