The Man Himself.

I met Fransisco “paco” Millan over in his office/ workshop at the driving range at Golf Del Sur, what a beautiful setting to work in, with views from his office stretching over the driving range up to the beautiful snow capped Mount Teide. He has been with Golf Del Sur which is now part of the Aymerich Golf Management team for the past 11 years, coming from Golf las Americas where he was the four years previously, to take up the position of head Professional at Golf Del Sur.

An immaculately turned out individual who was originally from the Malaga region of Spain and is a fully trained Spanish P.G.A Professional and has played for the last few years on the Spanish Seniors Tour and at one stage was ranked No9 in Spain.

Paco’s job at G.D.S is more than just teaching people how to hit a golf ball.The first thing you notice is his command of English in which he is fluent also German, Swedish, Norwegian and of course Spanish all of which  are necessary for a Pro in Tenerife as they get people from all over Europe coming to have lessons in the sun during the winter period and who could blame them for that. Although he does admit his Russian is a bit sticky.

Club Maker and repairer.

At his office  which is attached to a full driving range with a short game area,  bunker play area and two putting and chipping greens. He has a full workshop for doing club repairs, being a fully trained official club maker, he can build you a custom full set of clubs, repair a broken shaft on your wedge or just put a new grip on your putter.He also has a large selection of new clubs ant sensible prices from the top club manufacturers including Taylor-Made, Cobra, Srixon, PGA, Cleveland and Ping best of all he offers all members of Golf Del Sur a 10% discount off his prices on all workshop work and new clubs. Another thing I liked was his new beginners clubs for kids or adults he will get you started with a budget range of clubs till you get the feel for Golf and then once you progress he will give you a good trade up price against a new set, this is super if you have youngsters as they grow so fast and Paco always has a new batch of kids coming on looking for a second hand set.

Golf Clinics and lessons.

One of Paco’s strengths is his ability to run and manage Golf clinics both for private or corporate clients he will cover a wide range of subjects including bunker play, chipping, putting, pitching, Long Irons, the woods and course management. He can also organise private on course lessons for the individual or couples from a few holes to a full day including lunch. At the weekend he runs kids groups with hour long lessons based on age groups and sometimes on a Saturday he and his assistants have 100 youngsters all having fun learning how to become the next Tiger Woods.

Beginners are something he takes to heart and he will guarantee after one lesson he will have you hitting the odd good shot that will make you want to come back for more, he is also able to get you a proper Spanish Golf Federation handicap this will you get going to allow you on to the course without being a burden to fellow golfers. Individual lessons from the man are priced, I think,very reasonably at 42 Euro per hour and 25 Euro per 1/2 hour.
