I must say I thought the question asked by Mary was perfectly reasonable. It reminded me of the one (and only) time my father took me golfing. He told me to hold the flag so I did and stood nicely out of the way at the edge of the green with it. When I asked him why he was hitting the ball towards me, instead of at the hole in the middle he went a lovely shade of purple…
